
Dutch Search Awards 2020
Hooray! A milestone edition of the Dutch Search Awards. The annual celebration centered on recognition and appreciation for the Dutch search landscape took place digitally this year. Was it different? Yes! But fortunately, it was no less exciting. Agencies, brands, professionals, and providers of tools and software submitted their campaign case studies in advance, which were then evaluated by a professional jury of industry experts. ONLINE PARTY
Of course, a party like the one held at DeFabrique last year wasn’t possible due to COVID-19 restrictions, but there was still plenty to celebrate—even from home! All participants received a goodie box delivered to their homes, containing champagne, glasses, chocolate, and party supplies. In addition, the hosts, Saar Koningsberger and Ron Simpson, looked festive in their formal attire. They were brimming with enthusiasm as they presented the 25 awards in the categories of Search, Best of Digital, Software & Tools, Bonus, and Excellence. And, of course, to present the most important award of the evening: The Grand Prize! New this year was that in some categories, the second- and third-place finishers didn’t go home empty-handed but received a badge they can display on their website.
REMOTE CONNECTIVITY
To maintain the event’s social media presence, the team was asked to share photos on social media using the hashtag #DSA20. These images appeared on a social wall, giving everyone a glimpse into how all the nominees experienced the evening. In some categories, the nominees also called in. To ensure that everything ran smoothly, a director was indispensable. She served as the point of contact for all parties and made sure the program stayed on schedule.

It took some getting used to for us—the in-person party we organize every year suddenly had to go digital… And that involves quite a bit of work! We received excellent guidance from DeFabrique, who clearly had a lot of experience with digital events. Our desire to interact with our audience at home was more than fulfilled by having some people join via video call during the program. The professionalism of the video crew and director ensured a high-quality show, which people at home thoroughly enjoyed watching. Although we really missed having our guests there in person this year, we can look back on a very successful digital anniversary edition!

With a production timeline of 8 months, our flexibility was really put to the test due to the pandemic. Working with the ladies from the Dutch Search Awards was a blast. They knew exactly what they wanted and had a clear vision in mind. DeFabrique is delighted that they look back on their anniversary edition with such satisfaction and enthusiasm. Even though things were different this time, it was still a wonderful show, and it was clear from both the social wall and the calls from the nominees that the participants also had a wonderful and festive evening!
